6213314_sHebrews 5:12 In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God’s word all over again. You need milk, not solid food!

It is kind of surreal being a parent; the things my mom and dad taught me I find myself sharing with my children. At one point I depended upon my parents for everything until they successfully weaned me from dependence to interdependence. When I was a child, I thought like a child. I reasoned as a child but when I became a man I put childish ways behind me.

In the church we have a lot of grown children that should be weaned but still on milk. We have some people who are sitting in the congregation that should be teaching the next generation.

The whole point of becoming a Disciple of Christ is to grow from being a eater to a feeder. We have to move from milk to meat. We have to move from student to teacher. Some people are intimidated because they feel they don’t know enough. Growing has to do with obedience more than knowing. Some people know but never follow it up with action. By now you should be teaching.

How do I move from learning to teaching?

  1. Receive forgiveness from God. David was a great King who had to shift from learner to teacher. As great of a leader as he was he was also a great dinner. He asked God to forgive him so that he could TEACH transgressors. You can’t teach what you haven’t been through.
  1. You teach as a result of obedience to what you already know. The word education in Latin means, “to draw out.” When you avail yourself to God he draws out what is already in you.
  1. You teach when you recognize that there are others who can benefit from what you know. You can’t keep sitting in church idle when the next generation needs your guidance.

Dear God,

Help me to move from milk to meat. I’ve been through too much not to share my heart, experiences, and knowledge. Shift me from just being a learner to a teacher.

In Jesus Name,

Amen
