“Those who love their life in this world will lose it. Those who care nothing for their life in this world will keep it for eternity.”

John 12:25 NLT

The most dangerous person in the world is the one that has nothing to lose.Malcolm X

When you have nothing to lose, then and only then, do you have everything to gain. Jeremy Statton

You can see it in a basketball game. One team is up by 21 points like Cleveland was in the recent game against Boston. The Cavaliers had played dominantly for two games against Boston. They were at home, then the Celtics came back to win. How? The Cavaliers started playing “not to lose” and the Celtics started playing like they had nothing to lose.

When an organization is in preservation mode they play so they don’t lose members. When they are in the momentum stage they take healthy risks and try new things. When you play in such a way as to “not lose anything or anybody” you end up losing it all!

Jesus told his disciples that he was about to give his life for the salvation of all. He said, “unless a grain of wheat falls in the ground and does it cannot produce a harvest. He who tries to save their life will lose it and he who gives his life shall find it!”

  1. It’s only when we give it our all without fear of losing that we find it! You can’t be afraid to lose. You don’t gain anything by playing it safe. It’s all or nothing.
  2. Losing helps to win. I’m pulling for Cleveland but I admire Boston’s young team. They didn’t quit after being humiliated two games. They came back in Cleveland and gave it their all to win. Even though the odds are against you, your losses have strengthened you and made you hungry. You’re more dangerous now than ever before!
  3. It’s only when you come to the end of yourself that you find real life. We imprison ourselves with the fear of losing when it is our faith in God that guarantees our gain. Once you flip this switch in your mind of no longer being afraid to lose is when you begin to win again.

Go out there today and give it your all. Go kick up some dust! Don’t go down without a fight. You were born to win but you can’t be afraid to lose. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain!

Dear God,

Give us the courage to go out in the world and play our best game today. I’m tired of shrinking back, playing it safe. I’ve lost more standing still than I have if I would’ve gone out and risked more. I’m giving you my all and I know that it is you who will give me the increase!

In Jesus’ Name,
