“Good planning and hard work lead to prosperity, but hasty shortcuts lead to poverty.”
Proverbs 21:5 NLT
There’s a show I used to love as a teenager. It was called the A Team. The most famous person from that show was Mr. T aka BA Barraccus. At the end of each show this team of ex-military specialist would always pull off an impossible mission with the Colonel lighting a cigar saying, “I love it when a plan comes together!”
What is a plan?
a : a method for achieving an end
b : an often customary method of doing something : procedure
c : a detailed formulation of a program of action
God has a plan for us just like he told Jeremiah in Chapter 29:11:
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
1. You have to come up with a good plan. A good plan starts with:
Purpose–God has a plan for your life. Everything you do has to be in sync with God’s plan. Once God reveals his plans for your life you have to write the vision and make it plain.
Long term vision–what is your long term vision for your life as revealed by God’s purpose? Where do you see yourself 5 years, 15 years, 20 years from now?
Act your way into your vision–Everything you do needs to line up with your vision and purpose. It’s going to take some action to execute the vision.
Necessary steps. You are going to have to chop your vision up into executable steps. Set goals for your life 12 weeks at a time that lead to your three-year vision. If you fail to plan you are planning to fail.
2. Work Hard. No matter how good your plan is, if you don’t put some effort behind your plans they will come to nothing. But if you work your plan it will lead to prosperity.
A little extra sleep, a little more slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest— then poverty will pounce on you like a bandit; scarcity will attack you like an armed robber. Proverbs 6:10-11
3. Shortcuts lead to poverty. There is no elevator to success. You must take the stairs! It takes 10,000 hours to master something. Every person who was great in something put the time and effort into it.
I must work the works of Him who sent Me while it is day; the night is coming when no one can work. John 9:4
Help me to come up with a plan that is in sync with your plan for my life. I know that you want me to be successful and prosper. Don’t let me waste anymore time doing anything selfish or evil. I want to live out my purpose in my lifetime so that when it’s all over I can hear you say, “Well done my good and faithful servant. You’ve been faithful over a few things. Now come on up for I will make you ruler over many!”
In Jesus’ Name,
