2. Timothy 2:5 an athlete who competes does not win a victor’s crown unless they compete according to the rules

What’s the move? Can I tell truth?
If I was doing this for you
Then I have nothing left to prove, nah
This for me, though
I’m just tryna stay alive and take care of my people
And they don’t have no award for that
Trophies, trophies
And they don’t have no award for that
This don’t come with trophies
Ain’t no envelopes to open
I just do it cause I’m ‘supposed to

There is no prize or human recognition for doing what you are supposed to do. If we did what we are supposed to do for people we would have quit a long time ago because you can’t please people. Your aim should be to please God. It’s his voice that we want to hear say, “well done my good and faithful servant, you’ve Been faithful over a few things.” I like what William Murphy said, “I haven’t been perfect but I’ve sure been faithful.”

Just like an athlete we will not always have perfect games but we should strive to play by the rules. As we attempt to take care of our people we still have to play by the rules. There is no wrong way to do the right thing. Even though people don’t always acknowledge the good you do God doesn’t let any good deed go unnoticed. We will reap an unfading crown of Glory if we don’t grow weary in well doing.

Whatever you do today, do it as if you are doing it for The Lord. He is watching from the judges booth and he will reward you for your efforts. The people around you don’t have any trophies and what’s in the envelope can’t sustain you. Only what you do for Christ will last. They ain’t got no award for that!

Dear God,

Give me the strength to endure, the discipline to play by your rules, and the courage to get back up after I fall. Help me to fight the good fight of faith, stand strong, and finish the race.

In Jesus Name,
