“So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death.”

Romans 8:1-2 NLT

James Saint Patrick is free!  On the much watched drama, “Power,” Angela finally saw the evidence that James did not kill the FBI agent. She sacrifices her career for the truth. When James says, “Thank you,” Angela says, “Don’t thank me. You might not have killed Greg but you are not innocent. You and I both know you’ve done some other things.” She set him free but she still condemned him.

I’m glad God is not like people. Angela had the power to set him free from these trumped up charges but she she didn’t have the power to set him free from condemnation. He had some other sins that were condemning.

God is the only one who has the power to set us free not just from prison but from ourselves. We often hold the key to our own prison cells because we are waiting for people to release us when God already has.

How so?

  1. The apostle Paul said that there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. We can have the best lawyers, be connected to powerful people, have a lot of money but still be condemned to spend eternity in hell. But Jesus sacrificed his life to pay the penalty for ALL of our sins. There is no heavenly record of our past sins once we accept Jesus as our Lord and savior. You are free to go!
  2. Because you belong to Jesus the power of the life giving spirit has freed you. The consequences of our bad decisions has caused something to die in us. It is the power of the life giving spirit that regenerates our inner self. Our humanity is restored. The only thing that can turn James into a saint is the power of the Holy Ghost! Not Angela.
  3. It is the power of the Holy Ghost that frees us from the power of sin that leads to death. It’s amazing to hear Tommy confess to killing his ex and stating he wants to get out the game but he can’t get away from himself. Some of us are caught up in lifestyles we can’t seem to escape and we know that they will end in death. The Holy Spirit is the only one who can provide an exit strategy for what you couldn’t shake on your own.

Today ask Jesus to come in and take control of your life. When you surrender your life to Jesus then God will fill you with your Holy Spirit to transform your inner man. You did what you did!but Jesus exchanged clothes with you so that the DNA that should’ve condemned you stayed on him. He was executed for your sins. But he was raised from the dead with all power in his hands. Now you have the power to get up and get out for good!

Dear God,

Thank you for Jesus! Jesus is my help. No other help I know! Thank you for not condemning me. I’m not innocent. I am a sinner saved by grace. You have been a merciful God. I want to live the rest of my life totally surrendered to your will. The power of the life giving spirit has set me free because he whom the Son sets free is free indeed!

In Jesus’ Name,
