“Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither— whatever they do prospers.” Psalm 1:1-3 NIV
All of us want to have a prosperous New Year but it all depends on who you are connected to. We always talk about leaving bad connections in the old year so we can start new healthy connections in the New Year. New Year+ New Healthy Connections = New You
The Psalmist knew this when he talked about what it meant to be blessed or happy. He said …
1. Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked. To walk in step with someone means that you are in agreement. People who are wicked do not have values that match up with God’s character. You can’t be happy if you are in sync with wicked people. You have to make connections to people who have the same value system as laid out in God’s word.
2. Blessed is the one that does not stand in the way of sinners. We are happy when we don’t put ourselves in the path of people set on doing wrong. It’s hard to slip into the river if you aren’t down by the riverbanks. In order to be happy you might have to pick strategic places to hang out.
3. Blessed is the person that doesn’t sit in the seat of mockers. Mockers are people who sit around and make fun of people trying to do something positive. They don’t build up. They tear down. Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small minds discuss people. –Eleanor Roosevelt
If we want to prosper in the New Year our delight should be in the law of the Lord in which we meditate both day and night. God’s promise if we do so is that we shall be like a tree planted by the water yielding forth its fruit in its season and whatever we do it shall prosper!
In 2017 we need the Power of Connection to prosper. Connect with God, connect with Godly people, and connect with a mission to make the world better.
Help me to make the right connections this year. If I connect to the wrong people I start out walking, then standing, and finally sitting. Don’t let me become stagnated and stalled connecting with the wrong people instead send me in a New Direction so that my new year will yield to a new me! Change me from the inside out by making the right connections!
In Jesus Name,
