“Remember your word to your servant, for you have given me hope. My comfort in my suffering is this: your promise preserves my life.”
Psalm 119:49-50 NIVUK

I remember as a child how the word of your parent meant everything. If your mom or dad promised they were going to do something for you then you would hold onto that promise come what may. If my mother said she was going to do something I built all of my expectations on that.

Sometimes the only thing you have to hold on to is the last thing God told you. If you’re not in relationship with God you have nothing to hold you through difficult times.

The prophet Jeremiah was living under siege. God had used him to warn the King that they would be taken into exile. No one believed him and on top of that they wanted to kill him for telling the truth. The only thing that kept Jeremiah through hostile times was God’s promise.

  1. God’s word kept Jeremiah and gave him hope. My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus’ love and righteousness. Jesus is the word of God. He is the living word. When I am in relationship with the Word of God he gives me Hope! Grass withers and flowers fade but the word of our Lord shall stand forever! You have to read God’s word everyday so that you can remind yourself of the promises.
  2. God’s word comforts me. When we find ourselves in discomforting times our only comfort is God’s word. Jesus told his disciple, “In this world you will have trouble. But be of good cheer for I have already overcome the world!” If Jesus overcame it you can too!
  3. Your promise preserves my life. When we are suffering the only thing that keeps us is God’s promise for better. Jesus’ ultimate promise to us is that he has come to give us life and life more abundantly. Anything short of that doesn’t match his promise. Jesus can’t lie! So what gets me through my suffering is remembering the promise he made me, “Never will I leave you or forsake you!”

Dear God,

Bless those that feel forsaken. Remind them of your promises. Better is waiting on us. You are waiting on us to remember your promises for those that believe. God I have written the vision and though it is tarrying I’m going to wait on it for I know it will come to pass! Thank you God that you’re not a man that you would lie nor the son of man that you would change your mind. God I will trust you even when I can’t trace you! I have hope and confidence that you will see me through!

In Jesus’ Name,
