“So the sun stood still and the moon stayed in place until the nation of Israel had defeated its enemies. Is this event not recorded in The Book of Jashar? The sun stayed in the middle of the sky, and it did not set as on a normal day.”

Joshua 10:13 NLT

God has the ability to intervene in our day so that it is no ordinary day. If God wants to, he can suspend the laws of nature on behalf of his children. It’s a wonder to me that the world has existed this long. If the earth were to tilt off its axis it would change the seasons. Summer happens in the hemisphere tilted towards the sun, and winter happens in the hemisphere tilted away from the sun. Changes in axial tilt affect the distribution of solar radiation received at the earth’s surface. When the angle of tilt is low, polar regions receive less insolation. There would be higher sea levels since the poles would not have as much ice. Pacific storms and monsoons probably wouldn’t be a big issue since the wind belts would only exist further north and south, we probably wouldn’t have tropical wind belts like we know them.

If God can hold the tilt of the earth for thousands of years why couldn’t he hold the sun still a few hours?

Joshua was at war against five kings. He was in a season of warfare. He had entered into the promised land but he had to fight to claim the land. The enemy isn’t just going to let you walk in and claim your land. It’s going to take a “bloody win” as Tye Tribett would say.

Joshua prayed to God help him in his outnumbered dilemma. “Can you make the sun stand still?!” God answered his prayer and the sun did not set until all of his enemies were defeated.

How does God make the sun stand still?

  1. God will give you “daylight saving.” Daylight saving was an attempt by man to give himself more time to work in the field in late afternoon. Jesus said, “We must work the works of Him who sent Me as long as it is day; night is coming when no one can work.”
  2. Sometimes God will suspend time to give us the opportunity to finish what he told us to do. When we experience a moment where God has suspended time, we need to take advantage of his grace and do the work he sent us to do!
  3. We will have moments where it seems like time stands still. We’ve all experienced times where God seemed to slow down time so you could accomplish what seemed out of reach. These are serendipitous moments where the serene dips down into our time and space. Look for God today in opportunities that avail themselves to you.
  4. There have been times in my life where it rained in one area and the sun shined in another. When we had our groundbreaking at Eden Square, it rained all night but stopped when we drove up on the lot. After we broke ground and prayed it started raining again. God will give you intervals of time to accomplish what he has for your life. It rains on the just as well as the unjust, but God will hold back the rain if you ask him.

The Bible states that there was never another day like Joshua had, but they didn’t count on the day Jesus was crucified. Because on that day the sun refused to shine. The reason the sun couldn’t shine during the crucifixion was because the Son was shining! Whatever you’re going through, remember that the Son of God controls the intervals of time.

Dear God,

We operate on your time schedule. You may not come when we want you to but you are always on time! Today someone needs you to tilt an outcome in their direction so that it can line up with their season of victory. Someone needs you to turn back time to give them more time to accomplish what your will is for their life. I pray that today is no ordinary day for us, but instead we would look for portals of possibilities to accomplish the impossible. Difficult might take awhile and the impossible takes a little longer. All things are possible with you God because I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me!

In Jesus’ Name,

Amen
