2 Corinthians 13:14 “May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.”

When I was a young preacher, I used to love hearing my pastor give the benediction in the country. I would study him to try and remember his close…”Now may the Grace of our Lord and Savior, the love of of God, and the sweet communion of the Holy Spirit, rest rule, and abide with you now and forever…(choir sings” may the Lord be with you until we meet again…Amen!)

I loved that benediction because it was a reminder that as we left that house of worship- we were supposed to take something with us. Before you leave the house this morning, I want you to take these three things with you.

  1. The Grace of Jesus. Grace is unmerited favor. When you are in relationship with JESUS he will grant you favor that will extend throughout your day. Grace is getting through what you didn’t have the resources to get through. Grace is receiving what you need that you didn’t deserve to get because of your relationship to your Lord and Savior. Just as you receive grace you also should extend grave. Freely you have received freely you should give.
  1. The Love of God. Agape is selfless, sacrificial, unconditional love, the highest of the four types of love in the Bible. This is the kind of love that is action oriented. It looks beyond the flawed nature of humans to their spiritual potential. You have to love people even when you don’t like them. Love them with the love of the Lord. God loved us so much that he let Jesus die for us while we were still sinning. That’s love!
  1. The Fellowship of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the reconciling agent of the trinity. The old folks described the Holy Spirit by asking: “what is this that makes me do right when I want to do wrong? What is this that makes me love my enemies? Whatever it is I don’t want it to leave me alone!” The Holy Spirit inside of us leads into right relationships with others. God wants us to fellowship with others just as he, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit work together. Find you two or three people today that you can be in authentic relationship with and watch Jesus show up.

Dear God,

Thank you for going with us as we leave your house to go to work and school today. Fill us with your Love. Guide us with your grace and empower us with your spirit. Lead, guide, and direct us today I pray in Jesus Name!
