The Wu Tang Clan have a classic song called C.R.E.A.M. Cash Rules Everything Around Me, Cream! Get the money! Dollar, dollar bill y’all! This Hip-Hop anthem became the favorite hymn of many Hip-Hop heads because their pursuit was C.R.E.A.M but as our spiritual maturity evolved we realized that this song could not sustain us. The acronym was right but the first word was wrong. C.R.E.A.M. should stand for Christ Rules Everything Around Me!
There is something more sustainable than silver and gold. Kirk Franklin knew it when he wrote; “I’d rather have Jesus than Silver and Gold!” Don’t get me wrong you need Cash to pay your bills and make a living but Christ supersedes Cash. Christ rules everything around me including cash.
A crippled man was sitting by the Temple entrance begging as usual when he saw Peter and John. He was begging for money but Peter broke his paradigm. He told the beggar to look at them. He had grown so accustomed to begging that he no longer made eye contact with people. Peter said, “Look at us!” Since he was sitting he had to look up. He looked up expecting something. When was the last time you looked up expecting to get something?
Peter made a disappointing announcement followed by an encouraging action. If you cannot make it through a discouraging announcement you might miss an encouraging move of God.
1. Silver and Gold I do not have. There is a danger to turn off our spiritual ears after that announcement especially when your paradigm that Cash rules everything around you. But there is something else or should I say somebody else? What can be better than cash?
2. That which I do have I give you. Peter acknowledges that he doesn’t have any money in his budget to give this man. His benevolence fund has been exhausted but he still has something to give this man. Notice he says, “What I have I give!” You can’t give what you don’t have. Peter has Faith that Jesus is going to heal this man and that will end his cycle of poverty. That is better than cash.
3. He gives him a hand up and not a hand out. He exchanges Christ not currency. He gives him the currency of Faith. Without faith it is impossible to please God. Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and everything else will be added to you.
The man jumped up and followed Peter and John back into the temple. When God gets you back on your feet make it your business to go back to church. How is it that God put you back on your feet and you can’t come to church to give him praise?! There is something better than money! It’s C.R.E.A.M! Christ Rules Everything Around Me!
Thank you for giving me faith in Jesus to get me back on my feet. I may not have all the cash I need but I have all the faith I need. I’m looking up expecting that all my needs shall be met according to your riches in Glory!
In Jesus Name!
