unshakeableMatthew 21:28-32 ‘What do you think? There was a man who had two sons. He went to the first and said, “Son, go and work today in the vineyard.” ‘“I will not,” he answered, but later he changed his mind and went. ‘Then the father went to the other son and said the same thing. He answered, “I will, sir,” but he did not go. ‘Which of the two did what his father wanted?’‘ The first,’ they answered. Jesus said to them, ‘Truly I tell you, the tax collectors and the prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God ahead of you. For John came to you to show you the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes did. And even after you saw this, you did not repent and believe him.

It’s amazing how we put people into heaven or condemn them to hell based upon our understanding of God’s word. We categorize people as worthy or not worthy of going to heaven based upon what we see. Henry David Thoreau said, “There’s a difference in what we look at and what we actually see!” People see me but they just don’t know.

Jesus gave a parable of two sons. The father asked one son to go work in the vineyard and he flat out said, “No!” But changed his mind and went later. The father asked the second son to go work in the vineyard and he said, “yes” but never went. Which one of these was obedient? Answer: the disobedient one! Huh?

The disobedient son said, “no!” at first but later changed his mind. This son represents the prostitutes and tax collectors (hustlers) in Jesus’ day. They said “no!” to God initially but after they ran into a dead end in their lifestyles and met Jesus they repented and said, “Yes!”

Then there is the second son who said, “Yes” like he was going to work but never went. He represents the religious who hold up their hands in church and say “Yes” but walk out of church refusing to do anything for God.

Jesus said the people we write off for hell will get to heaven before some of us who have a form of godliness!

How do we prevent this?

  1. Repent of your sin. When you recognize that your life does not match your “yes” to God make adjustments.  Turn from your wicked ways and follow the ways of Christ.
  2. Let your “Yes” be yes and your “No” be no. All a man or woman has is their word. If you say you are going to do something follow through on it. If you sign up to help in a ministry follow through on it. Don’t get goose bumps and say yes then get out of church and say “No!”
  3. Realize that only what you do for Christ will last. God will judge each one of us by what we actually did and why we did it.

Before you answer God today, ask yourself, “Is my soul saying yes or just my mouth?”

Dear God,

I want to see you one day when it’s all over. My soul says, “yes” to your will and “yes” to your way.  Whatever you want me to do I’ll do it. Wherever you want me to go, I’ll go. Forgive me for the days I wasted saying “no.” Thank you for giving me a chance again to say “yes!” I’m ready to work in your vineyard.

In Jesus Name,

Amen
