“So take this seriously. The Lord has chosen you to build a Temple as his sanctuary. Be strong, and do the work.”

Then David continued, “Be strong and courageous, and do the work. Don’t be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord God, my God, is with you. He will not fail you or forsake you. He will see to it that all the work related to the Temple of the Lord is finished correctly.” 1 Chronicles 28:10, 20 NLT

Whenever someone said, “Serious business,” you knew that all joking stopped. Something very important was about to be said or done. I believe that playtime is over with in the Earth. There is too much going on around us for us not to take the building up of God’s people serious. The church we build is not a building, but the people that occupy the building. God has chosen us to build each other up and that is “serious business!”

So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up. Ephesians 4:11-12

Each of us have a unique SHAPE (Spiritual Gifts, Heart, Abilities, Personality, and Experiences) that God wants to use to build up his body or church. He also has some instructions for how he wants us to approach building it up.

1.  Be strong and courageous and do the work. He wants us to be strong. I think that means emotionally, physically and spiritually strong. We have work to do, loads to lift which require strength and courage. This is not for the faint of heart. We have to do the work. What’s the work? To do justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with our God!

2. Don’t be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord our God is with you. Whenever you are attempting something great for God you will always have to contend with fear and discouragement. It comes with the territory but you have to choose not to give into it. The caveat is that God is the one who commissioned you to do it and he’s staying with you until it’s finished!

3. God will see that all of the work is done correctly. God will spellcheck your work before it’s completed. He will make adjustments during the process. You are not alone in this work. God will see it through.

Dear God,

Thank you for choosing me to build up your house! I am encouraged to do the work that you sent me to do. You will not let it go undone. Though many would like to see me quit before it’s finished, I’m encouraged today that the work that you have begun in me that you will be faithful to complete it.

I’m so serious! I’m excited to see what the end is going to be!

In Jesus’ Name,
