“Then we will not turn away from you! Revive us so that we can call on your name. Restore us, LORD God of heavenly forces! Make your face shine so that we can be saved!”

Psalms 80:18-19 (CEB)

There comes a time when we need God to get us back to a place in him where we are revived, and restored, and can reflect his glory.

Life can drain you to the point where you don’t feel connected to God. You feel like the proverbial ‘raisin in the sun’ detached from the vine and dry. Jesus said, “I am the Vine, you are the branch. If you abide in me you will bear much fruit!” It is when we are detached that we are unable to bear fruit.

The fruit of the Spirit is love, patience, kindness, gentleness, peace, and self-discipline. When we are detached from the vine, which is Jesus, we cannot bear this fruit. How do we get reattached to Jesus?

  1. Revival–the psalmist asked God to “revive them so that they could call on God’s name.” When I was a young boy we would have week-long revival where those who did not know God would be invited to church to hear the Gospel in hopes that they might be saved. It’s hard to be revived if you don’t hear and call on the name of God. Every night of revival the pastor would quote this scripture: How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them (Romans 10:14)? Revival begins when we sit down to listen to the word of God being preached.
  2. Restore–when you are diminished God is able to restore you. When David was at his lowest point after committing murder and adultery he asked God to forgive him of his sins and to restore the joy of his salvation. Many people have lost their joy because of their detachment from Jesus from living a life of sin. Restoration comes after confession and turning away from the sinful lifestyle that detached you from God. After being revived from the inspiration of God’s word comes the restoration by the Holy Spirit. You get your joy back!
  3. Reflect God’s glory. When God revives you there is a glow that comes over your life. People can start seeing a reflection of Jesus’ glory upon your countenance. That’s why the old saints would sing in revival, “This little light of mine, I’m going to let it shine!”

This whole month we are having a “Second Wind” Revival on Sunday morning at New Direction Christian Church. This is your time to get reattached to Jesus and the body of Christ. God wants to revive you and restore you so that you can reflect his glory as a result of being saved.

Dear God,

Revive us again! We have strayed away from you like sheep. Our lives have been dull. We have no joy and we are filled with hopelessness. Father if you would, breathe into us the breath of life. Restore the joy of our salvation and get us back to a place where we can experience life and life more abundantly. Lord, our city needs a revival. Save our children from the hand of the enemy. Save our marriages from divorce court. Save our men from drugs and street culture. Save our women from domestic violence and low self-esteem. Heal the sick, raise the dead, and give sight to the blind. Lord, we need a revival! Send your fresh wind and fresh fire!

In Jesus’ Name,
