Matthew 9:37-38 He said to his disciples, “The harvest is great, but the workers are few. So pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest; ask him to send more workers into his fields.”

We have jobs in Memphis paying $85k that are vacant because no qualified workers can be found.  The talent pool is shallow, so major companies are reluctant to come here. We need more workers.  I’m glad the chamber of commerce is putting together a “Harvard model” workforce development plan to resolve this issue.

As it is in the natural, so it is in the spiritual.  The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.  There are so many spiritual opportunities for the Kingdom and so few workers. Jesus looked out over his city and saw so many hurting, sick, and lost people.  What he didn’t see were the people to help him reach them.  He told his disciples to pray for more workers.

As a pastor, I see those same kind of kingdom opportunities but the workers are few.  I’m praying that God would send more workers.  How can you help?

1.  Find out what your spiritual gifts are. You can take a spiritual gifts inventory to find out.

2.  Find out what kind of training your church offers and get equipped. At New Direction we have Empower U on Tuesdays and Wednesday’s. We will be creating a leadership development pipeline in the fall.

3.   Find out what your church or community needs and volunteer to help. Even if you haven’t been trained, start somewhere. You can grow as you go.

Dear God,

Our opportunities to do ministry are greater than the people we have to help. Stir the hearts of those who haven’t stepped up yet. Motivate the people in our congregation that haven’t used their gifts yet to help bring in your harvest. Lord we need your help to get more helpers. Send them to us. Send me.

In Jesus Name,

Amen
