When I purchase jeans it’s important that they fit just right. But there is also something just as important as the fit and that is knowing whether or not if these jeans will shrink after wash. I need them to be durable and last. It would be a poor investment to have purchased these jeans only for them to shrink back to a size that I can no longer use.

We were purchased with a price. Jesus Christ purchased us with his own blood. We have been pre-washed and his blood has removed every guilty stain that came as a result of our sin. We have the capacity to shrink but that’s a choice not a cause. Our faith and obedience keep us from shrinking back to a condition that God can’t use.

  1. My righteous one will live by faith. To be righteous is to live morally upright in accordance with the teachings of Christ. Faith is believing in something we do not yet fully see but believe through experience to be true. It’s stretching forward not shrinking back. God is able to use us when we are a “Righteous fit and stretched by faith.”
  1. We do not belong to those who shrink back. There are many people who start out on fire for the Lord but when they go through some adversity they shrink back to a default setting of less than faithful. It’s very easy to go back to who you were if you lose your faith or stretch. We live in a time where people quit too easy. We are not from that gene pool! We don’t quit!
  1. Our faith saves us. I have a favorite pair of jeans that are ripped still in my closet. I’ve asked my wife to sow them. It’s a big whole in the seat of my pants. Why not just throw them away? I paid a lot for them and they are comfortable. I have worn them over and over again until they are broken in. That’s the way God is with us. He paid a lot for us and even though we are flawed and in some places ragged, his grace holds us together. We were torn in our conscience but we didn’t shrink back and his grace saved us!

Dear God,

Thank you for not letting me shrink back to what you’ve delivered me from. I have been torn but your grace salvaged me from my mistakes. I can’t go back from what you brought me out of. By faith I am going forward and I won’t turn back!

In Jesus Name,
