Joshua 24:15 But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.’

At some point you have to make up your mind whose side you are going to be on. You can’t serve two masters. Trying to love two ain’t easy to do.

For many people today, it seems that God is no longer desirable to them. We treat God like we are ashamed of him. We only want him when we want something but God wants our heart- not just our wish lists. Jesus was right! We say we love God with our lips but our hearts are far from him.

Joshua had to remind the Israelites who their allegiance should be with in their new land. We have a tendency to forget old acquaintances, when we move to new places. Joshua in essence said, “…don’t forget who got you here! Make up your mind who you are going to be committed to!”

We are going with one of three gods:

1. The gods of your forefathers. The Israelites went through a period when they were in slavery where they worshipped the gods of the people that enslaved them. We have to be careful  of slave religion. My friend said the other day that “no religion is better than bad religion. Bad religion enslaves and hurts!” We have to distinguish between superstition and real spiritual connection to God. Don’t give me that old time religion if it does not lead to a real relationship with the living Christ.

2. The gods of today. It’s amazing to hear so many stars and rappers calling themselves god. Lucious from Empire said, “Not even God could kill me. I am a God. There’s nothing higher than music.” Lucious Lyons sounds like Lucifer who wanted to make himself god and was gifted in music. When we think our gifts make us independent from God or just like God we have exchanged the truth of God for a lie.

3.  But as for me and my family we will serve The Lord. Each of us has to make sure that our house serves the Lord. When you make up your mind to serve God it show in your action not just your speech. People will know you are a Christian by how you love God and serve other people. You are not a god! You are a servant of the most High God! Make up your mind today who you will serve as for me and my family, you already know we are rolling with Jesus!!

Dear God,

Help me to give you Glory in all that we say and do. My mind is made up and I’m not turning back! No matter what the people say, I’m going to love you any way. You are my life and I can’t let go! Where else can I go? You have the words of life. In you I live, move, and have my being. I will not serve any other God but you. For God I’ll live and for God I’ll die!

In Jesus Name,

Amen
