“When Jesus returned to Capernaum, a Roman officer came and pleaded with him, “Lord, my young servant lies in bed, paralyzed and in terrible pain.” Jesus said, “I will come and heal him.” But the officer said, “Lord, I am not worthy to have you come into my home. Just say the word from where you are, and my servant will be healed.
Then Jesus said to the Roman officer, “Go back home. Because you believed, it has happened.” And the young servant was healed that same hour.” Matthew 8:5-8, 13 NLT

It’s good to have people in your corner who are ready to step up when you need them. I’ve had people tell me, “If you ever need anything just say the word and I will be there.” I know some of those people were well-intentioned but when it came time for me to call on them they had something to do.

It’s not that way with Jesus! He’s always available. His availability is not the issue. Our faith is the issue. One of my friends told me this, “This year if you don’t believe God is going to do something you shouldn’t even pray. Because this season more than any you have to have faith that God is going to do it!”
This Roman officer approached Jesus to ask him to heal his servant who was home in the bed, paralyzed and suffering. What’s extraordinary is that this was a gentile oppressor asking a Jewish rabbi to heal his servant.
Jesus told him he would come to his house to heal the servant. The officer in great humility said, “I’m not worthy to have you come to my house but if you just say the word…you are a man of great authority like me…so if you just speak it I know he will be healed!”
This is all kinds of powerful!! Before Jesus can do the miraculous you have to do some things.
  1. You must humble yourself. This officer outranked Jesus in the natural and could have commanded him to come to his house but instead he recognized Jesus’ spiritual authority. Do we have the ability to humble ourselves when we come to Jesus? Do you see that Jesus’ authority outranks yours?
  2. We must have faith that Jesus can do it. The officer said,”You don’t have to come to my house, just say the word!” It is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him. Hebrews 11:6
  3. We must go home expecting a miracle. When we ask Jesus to do something we must go home expecting to see what we asked him to do even though he hasn’t physically gone to your house. You have to believe it before you’re able to walk in the house yourself! Just say the word over your own house right now!

Dear God,

Thank you that you are our provider. I believe that you will do just what you said. Just say the word Jesus and my situation at home will be healed. Just say the word over my finances and they will increase. Just say the word over my relationship and it will be mended. Just say the word over my job and the conflict will be resolved. You don’t have come to my house, but please Jesus say a word and it will be done.
In Your Name Jesus,
Amen!
