James 1:2-4 “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”

Joy to the world! The Lord has come. Let earth receive her King. Let every heart prepare him room.

We are in a season where to world is supposed to be experiencing great Joy! It’s Christmas, which celebrates the entrance of the King of Kings. It also a time plagued with threats of terrorism, violent attacks, and political conflict. Domestic abuse goes up during this time because of arguments concerning the finances. Yet in the midst of it all we are to have Joy! How?!

James says,” that when we find ourselves going through diverse trials we are to consider it pure joy!” This sounds schizophrenic. Things are going bad around me but inside I’m suppose to have Joy?! And on top of that “Pure Joy?!”

James knew that when you are a believer that something accompanies the blessing of belonging to Jesus. As an apostle of Jesus he remembered Peter’s question to Jesus; “we have left everything to follow you; family, friends, business, land. What’s in it for us?!” Jesus replied, “no one who has left home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for me and the gospel will fail to receive a hundred times as much in this present age: homes, brothers, sisters, mothers, children and fields—along with persecutions—and in the age to come eternal life.

Persecution comes along with promotion but to get to it it you must persevere through it.

Count it all Joy when you are going through many challenges because:

1. God is testing you, which means he trusts you with trouble. You can go to the next level until you take your final exam. Your test is a prelude to your promotion. Count it all Joy!

2. Your test teaches you how to persevere. The more you go through the stronger you become. This is not your first rodeo. You are stronger because of what you already survived. Count it all Joy because this too will pass!

3. You are reaching a level of maturity where you will lack nothing. After you get past this every thing you need from God will be in place. Keep pressing through. Count it all Joy!

Dear God,

Thank you for giving me the strength to pass this test. I have Joy because I know my breakthrough is around the corner. I love you Lord! Thank you for sending your son Jesus!

In his name,
