“Get up,” the angel said, “and take the child and his mother and go to the land of Israel. Those who were trying to kill the child are dead.” Joseph got up, took the child and his mother, and went to the land of Israel.” Matthew 2:20-21 CEB

Many times we flee a holy place because of evil people. Sometimes our anointing makes us vulnerable to attack. God will even lead us to safe places to hide until it’s safe to come back.

When Jesus was born, the King was wanted him dead. Jesus was just a baby but still a threat. The enemy wants to snuff out Jesus in you before you can mature as a believer.

When attacks increased some people found it more expedient to leave the house of God for Egypt. But this is the season for you to come back to the house of God because Herod is dead!

  1. Never go back unless something has changed. There has been a shift in the body of Christ. There has been some old religious spirits that had to die so God could do a new thing and bring anointed people back home. Sometimes when old spirits rise up it intimidates the new but God will not allow the old to snuff out the new. He’s going to deal with murderous spirits. When that old religious spirit is dead it’s safe to go back. When Cain killed Able it was because he had a religious spirit. He was jealous of the favor his brother had with God. God told Cain if he would do what was right he too would be accepted.
  2. When you go back watch out for any related spirits. Joseph didn’t go back to Galilee because a cousin of Herod was still in charge. You can go back but you still have to use your discernment to make sure all threats have been dealt with. Go back but keep your eyes open.
  3. Protect Jesus at all costs. Joseph opted to stay in a place less reputable but much safer. The place was so bad they had a saying, “can anything good come out of Nazareth?” Joseph wasn’t concerned about where he was staying; he was more concerned about where Jesus was going.

It’s safe for you to come back to the place you ran from. The strong man is dead. You just have to be cautious with his relatives. There is an assignment on your life. It requires you to come out of hiding and trust God to sow your seed in unglamorous ground.

Come back to church and make your contribution to put old religious spirits to rest once and for all. When you come back do so with the expectation that God is calling you back to make all things new!

Dear God,

I’m excited about coming back to church for a new year as a new me. I left for a while because that religious spirit tried to kill me. But I decree that Herod is dead and his cousin can’t touch me! This year as I go back and submit to Godly leadership, help me to grow in wisdom, stature, and favor with people.

In Jesus’ Name,

Amen
