“Let’s go across to the outpost of those pagans,” Jonathan said to his armor bearer. “Perhaps the Lord will help us, for nothing can hinder the Lord. He can win a battle whether he has many warriors or only a few!”

1 Samuel 14:6 NLT

I used to think that it took a whole lot of people to get stuff done. I used to think I needed a whole lot of friends to feel loved. But what I’ve discovered is that God can do a whole lot with just a little.

When we find ourselves outnumbered and underresourced we are in miracle territory. God is just waiting on us to exercise our faith.

King Saul and his 600 soldiers were battle weary and stuck under a pomegranate tree. Their enemies the Philistines were camped out on a nearby hill. His son Jonathan and his armor bearer snuck away. Jonathan had a bright idea, “Let’s go over there and pick a fight!”

Jonathan had faith that God was able to give them the victory over the Philistines whether they had many warriors or just two. The armor bearer said, “Do all that is in your heart. I’m with you all the way!” God gave them a miraculous victory by sending a panic through the enemy camp. The Philistines turned on each other and struck each other with the sword. When King Saul heard the commotion, he summoned the rest of the Israelites to go join his son in the fight.

If we are going to get the victory when we our outnumbered, underresourced, and have low morale we are going to have to learn from Jonathan.

  1. Don’t wait on people who are stuck to go with you. If people are too afraid or too tired to fight make up your mind to go alone. Sometimes you have to leave scared people under the tree as you go forward to pursue victory.
  2. You have to have faith that God can do it with a little or with a lot. It’s not about how much you have but how much you believe God can do! God is able to save with many or with a few!
  3. All you need is one person who is with you heart and soul! This might be a spouse or a counselor. This might be a business partner or a teammate. Jesus said, “Where two or three are gathered together touching and agreeing there I will be also!”

In this season it might look like you are outnumbered and underresourced but God is about to give you an unexpected victory because you believed him against all odds! Stop feeling sorry for yourself and go pick a fight!

Dear God,

I’m ready to go kick up some dust! Send me a few good men and women who ain’t afraid to fight against all odds. Give us the victory as we try to move our church and our organization from being unstuck. We are finished focusing on those who deserted us and we are focusing on the ones who stayed to fight. I pray for supernatural increase and favor. I pray that you would throw the enemies’ camp into confusion and embolden us to go take his territory, replenish our resources, and increase our numbers!

In Jesus’ Name,
