“Remember your promise to me; it is my only hope. Your promise revives me; it comforts me in all my troubles.” Psalms 119:49-50 NLT
Sometimes the only thing you have to hold onto is God’s Promises. Life can be so bleak at times and it’s easy to give into the negative voices in your head but you have to fight through it and take hold of the promise!
What promise?! God promised that, “Never will I leave you! Never will I forsake you!” This is God’s basic promise to his children and he also has individual prophetic Promises that he reveals to you through his word and his prophets.
David received a promise that he would be the next King of Israel but he spent a decade in the wilderness running for his life. What kept him getting up every morning with his life in danger? What kept him getting up with limited resources to feed his family? What kept him going when his own men were ready to desert him and stone him because they thought there families were dead? David held on to the Promises of God even though they didn’t match his current reality.
- David reminds God and himself of the Promises. He says to God, “Remember your promise to me; it’s my only Hope!” I can be dead tired but if one of my children comes to me and says, “but daddy, you promised!” I’m going to muster up all my strength to follow through on what I promised my child! So does God! God cannot lie! He will follow through!
- Your promises revive me! There can be times when Depression is about to take over me and God will send one of his prophets with a personal message from God to remind me of his promise. I then have to choose to grab hold of the promise. Philippians 3:12 Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me.
- God’s promises comfort me in all my trouble. When there is no good news from anybody else I take refuge in what God speaks to me. You will not be able to make it through these next four years if you don’t have a strong relationship with God. A lot of days will not match what you know to be true. You are going to have to hold to his hand, God’s unchanging hand!
Your promises are yes and amen! I will not shrink back in fear because of my current situation. You who have begun a good work in me will be faithful to complete it. I’m holding on to your promise that there’s more work for me to do. I’m holding on to your promise that the church is going to grow and your people are going to be blessed! God fulfill your promises in 2017 and even on our way out of 2016!
In Jesus Name,
