Romans 6:6 “We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sin.”

The profession of faith by the young man at the COGIC convention, “I’m not Gay no more!” Set off a firestorm of controversy. People questioned the sincerity of his confession. Some questioned the validity of such a confession. Some were upset because of the oversimplification over such a complex struggle. Some argued that homosexuality is not a sin to be delivered from. For this young man who struggled with his sexual identity he felt a need to be delivered.

Deliverance is not a joking matter and it’s not something that happens in the twinkling of an eye. Deliverance begins when we surrender our lives to Jesus who rescues us from the old nature that had us in bondage.

You know you are in bondage when you don’t have inner peace with what you are doing. We have been saved by grace. Meaning that there is nothing we can do to earn our righteousness. However we do not know if we are out of alignment with God unless we hear God’s word. Faith comes by hearing.

  1. The more we hear God’s word the more sin loses its hold over our lives.
  2. You have to do what God’s word says in order for it to work. We can stand up and say what we aren’t going to do all day but it’s not until you start living the word out that change begins to manifest.
  3. The Holy Spirit is the change agent. We all are inclined toward something that is contrary to God’s will. If it’s contrary then why is it in us? Through birth we have genetic tendencies that were picked up through previous generations both good and bad. The Holy Spirit brings the bad into submission.

In the days of slavery you could be born into slavery because your parents were saves. You had no say so over your life but if you had someone to purchase your freedom you did not have to live a life of slavery.

We’ve been bought with a price. Jesus Christ gave his life to set us free. When we truly surrender our lives to him and work out our salvation through a lifelong process of deliverance we can truly say, “I’m not —– no more! ” And it not be some punch line on social media.

We can debate about what is a sin and what is not a sin but one thing we can’t debate is change. When people were changed by Jesus people couldn’t believe the transformation. Live your life in such a way that people stop joking on you and join with you because they can see Christ in you.

1 Peter 2:12 Live honorably among the unbelievers. Today, they defame you, as if you were doing evil. But in the day when God visits to judge they will glorify him, because they have observed your honorable deeds.

Dear God,

Thank you for delivering me from that which tried to make a slave of me. Everyday I am getting stronger because I have yielded myself to your way of living. When we make a confession of faith give us the discipline to walk it out. Change us from the inside out and not just for a show to this dying world. Show them that you are real by what you do in me. I am not a slave anymore!

In Jesus Name,
