downbutnotoutActs 14:19-20 Then some Jews arrived from Antioch and Iconium and won the crowds to their side. They stoned Paul and dragged him out of town, thinking he was dead. But as the believers gathered around him, he got up and went back into the town. The next day he left with Barnabas for Derbe.

It’s hard to believe but there are some people that get no greater joy than to see you knocked down. They are hoping that you don’t get back up. People who should have been with you have somehow turned against you.

In the Movie “Enough” Jennifer Lopez plays a woman who has been a victim of Domestic Violence. After she’s had Enough abuse she seeks out a martial arts teacher to defend herself. He coaches her by saying:

He’s standing over. He thinks he’s won and just as sure as he is a coward he will try to kick you. But you know what to do!” In the movie Jennifer is knocked down. It looks like she’s about to die but she listens to the voice of her teacher and she gets back up to defeat her enemy.

The Apostle Paul was teaching the crowds about Jesus when the religious leaders turned the crowd against them. There are always people trying to turn the crowd against you. It’s not difficult because crowds aren’t committed. They are easily swayed because they have nothing vested in you. They have come to consume not commit. So whenever someone offers something new the crowd is easily persuaded to turn against you. They turned on Paul and picked up heavy stones and stoned him until they thought he was dead.

Because of some hardship you’ve been through, there are some people who think that you are dead. They think that you will never find another job. They think that you will never get over this divorce. They think that your ministry will never grow again. They walked away leaving you for dead.

1.This is the time that you tune into the voice of Jesus. When you are down you have to remind yourself of the last thing that Jesus spoke to you. “I am the resurrection and the life!” “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me!”

2.The bible says that the disciples gathered around Paul. I believe they were praying for him. Surround yourself with real people who really love you. Don’t focus on the crowd that left you. Focus on the Disciples that are still standing in support around you. Crowds are fickle. Disciples are committed. There are more with you than there are against you.

3. Paul got back up and started preaching again. It’s time for you to get back up and finish what you started. This is not where you die. This is where you get back up and finish strong!

Dear God,

Thank you for not letting me enemy triumph over me. These setbacks are only a setup for my comeback. Give me the strength to come back stronger than before. Give me the power to get back up and finish what you started in me!

In Jesus Name,
