Ezekiel 12:2-3 “Son of dust,” he said, “you live among rebels who could know the truth if they wanted to, but they don’t want to; they could hear me if they would listen, but they won’t, for they are rebels. So now put on a demonstration to show them what being exiled will be like. Pack whatever you can carry on your back and leave your home—go somewhere else.

It’s tough when you want something for someone more than they want it from themselves. Sometimes being a leader is like seeing the devastation of a coming storm and driving ahead to warn people who refuse to believe you. We could be so much further along if people wanted better.

I was so proud to see close to 1k people march and stand against violence this past weekend in Memphis. On the other hand I was sad because there should have been more. But the question is, “do they want more?” Harriet Tubman rescued over 300 people from slavery. She said she could have saved more if they knew they were slaves.

Some people don’t realize that they are enslaved to their addictions. Some people can’t hear wisdom because they are accustomed to foolishness.

God tells Ezekiel that he’s wasting his time talking to Israel because they are a rebellious people. When you are rebellious you refuse to:

  1. Know the truth. The purpose of preaching and teaching is to expose people to the truth. Many people have closed their ears to the truth. There is no excuse for us not knowing the truth other than we are rebellious. Don’t tell me the truth because then I’d have to stop doing what I’m doing. If you know the truth the truth will set you free or could it be that you like being a slave?
  1. Refuse to hear. How can they know unless they hear? Sometimes it’s hard talking to people who think they know everything. With the popularity of the Internet everybody has become an overnight expert on everything. They know everything and nothing. True wisdom comes from God. You only get that kind of wisdom by listening. We should talk less and listen more.

When people refuse to seek truth and listen to wisdom it’s time to pack your bags. Jesus said, “don’t cast your pearls amongst swine less they trample upon them.” Maybe seeing you leave will register in their minds that maybe a storm is coming.

If you want to you can open your eyes to the truth. Maybe you are the reason happiness keeps alluding you. If you want to you can escape what is enslaving you. If you would open your ears and listen to wisdom you could hear the direction God is taking, if you wanted to.

Dear God,

Open the eyes of my heart. I want to see you today. Don’t leave me to my own thoughts. Give me revelation today. Give me discernment on whom I should invest my time in and who I need to pack my bags and leave. There’s a storm coming and I can only rescue the ones who realize that slavery is not an option. Deliver us I pray.

In Jesus Name,
