Acts 4:18 They called them back and warned them that they were on no account ever again to speak or teach in the name of Jesus. But Peter and John spoke right back, “Whether it’s right in God’s eyes to listen to you rather than to God, you decide. As for us, there’s no question—we can’t keep quiet about what we’ve seen and heard.”

There are some people who would get no greater joy than to see you halt in your progress. There are people who have no other agenda than to silence you. But the more you talk about Jesus the more people are going to be blessed. Jesus himself said, “If you don’t say anything about me the rocks will cry out!”

Peter and John had healed a lame beggar that had been crippled over 40 years! The religious leaders became envious because 5,000 men accepted Christ after they heard about the miracle and heard the gospel preached; particularly that Jesus had been raised from the dead.

They warned them not to speak about Jesus anymore.

Peter explained to them that as religious leaders they should rethink their logic. Let me paraphrase: “do you really think we can obey men over God?!” Peter said:

1. We cannot help but to speak. Jeremiah the prophet went through much opposition when he prophesied about the captivity of Israel. The leaders abused him. Jeremiah said that he would not speak of God anymore. But when he tried not to speak of God he said it was like fire shut up in his bones. When you are called of God you can’t shut up!

2. We cannot help but to speak about what we’ve seen. When you have experienced God for yourself you cannot deny his existence no matter how politically incorrect it may seem to others. Your inability to believe does not trump my personal experience. I will not shut up!

3. We cannot help but to speak on what we have heard. God’s word is living and active. It does not return void. God’s word activates our faith. How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?

Make up your mind today that you will not stop just because other people are envious of your progress. You cannot help but to speak about what you have seen and heard. If you are ashamed of Jesus before men and women he will be ashamed of you before the Father. Preach the word in season and out of season. Tell them what you’ve seen and heard about Jesus!

Dear God,

Use me today to be an eye witness to your goodness. I can’t stop. I won’t stop. Somebody lame needs to know that Jesus got up. Your word has the power to raise up people who have been immobilized by sin. Use me to set the captives free by sharing the good news that Jesus is alive!

In his name I pray!
