“This Jesus is the stone you builders rejected; he has become the cornerstone! Salvation can be found in no one else. Throughout the whole world, no other name has been given among humans through which we must be saved.”

Acts 4:11-12 (CEB)

There’s nothing worse than to experience rejection from people that you thought loved you. Has there ever been a time when you expected someone who loved you to stand up and speak on your behalf and they didn’t? If someone can reject you when they get around certain people you have to wonder if they ever really loved you.

I bet that’s how Jesus feels when we are too embarrassed to mention his name around certain people. We get around certain people and we don’t want to offend their sensibilities. We live in a world where we are tolerant of so many things except Jesus. There’s just something about that name Jesus that either inspires or provokes.

Peter and John were thrown in prison for miraculously healing a 40-year-old man who was born crippled. It wasn’t so much the miracle that angered them but more so that they invoked the name of Jesus in performing the miracle. People don’t mind the miracles. Just don’t use the name. They don’t mind the progress. Just don’t use the name. They warned them to stop speaking the name Jesus!

Peter said, ‘We can’t stop, won’t stop!’ “The stone that the builder refused has become the chief cornerstone!”

When Bob Marley set out to connect with his white family in Jamaica on his father’s side, they rejected him. They told him to get out and never come back. He went home and wrote, “The stone that the builders refuse has become the chief cornerstone. The things they should use are the things they refuse.” His sister said that the Marley name would not be known all over the world if it weren’t for her brother they rejected.

  1. Our time is set on the birth and death of Jesus Christ. B.C. Before Christ and A.D. After Death. Time wouldn’t make sense without Jesus. In Christ we move, live, and have our being.
  2. Jesus said, “If you are ashamed of me before men then I will be ashamed of you before God.” We can’t reject Jesus without rejecting ourselves. When we have the opportunity to share what we believe we should do so. It seems that Christians are the only ones expected not to mention the name of the one they believe in.
  3. I am not ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ for it is the power unto salvation. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life! No one can come to the Father unless they come through me! There’s no way to get around it. Jesus is our stepping stone not our stumbling block.

I cannot stop mentioning his name. I cannot reject the only one that unconditionally accepted me. Jesus is my rock!

Dear God,

“Deliver me and rescue me by your righteousness! Bend your ear toward me and save me! Be my rock of refuge where I can always escape. You commanded that my life be saved because you are my rock and my fortress.”

Psalms 71:2-3 CEB

In Jesus’ Name,

Amen
