Jeremiah 42:10, 19, 22 ‘Stay here in this land. If you do, I will build you up and not tear you down; I will plant you and not uproot you. For I am sorry about all the punishment I have had to bring upon you. “Listen, you remnant of Judah. The Lord has told you: ‘Do not go to Egypt!’ Don’t forget this warning I have given you today. So you can be sure that you will die from war, famine, and disease in Egypt, where you insist on going.”
I was enjoying some barbecue on Labor Day and one of my older members home. In a joking way I told this older black man, “If Donald Trump wins I’m moving to Canada!” He said, “I ain’t going nowhere. We have survived worse than Donald Trump and America is one of the greatest countries in spite of our sordid history.”
For the record, Trump will not win, if we get out to vote. Nobody’s listening to Sean Puffy Combs!! Too many people died for us to withhold our vote. The bible says, “to withhold good when it is in your power to do so is evil!”
Africans in America have always had to thrive under Presidents who have not had their best interest and we helped make this country great again and again and again! We built it with 400 years of free slave labor. Why would we leave?! It’s our land!
The Babylonians had conquered Israel. There was a small remnant of people left in Judah. They asked Jeremiah to pray to God for direction. They said, “whatever the Lord says good or bad we will be obedient to it!’ Ten days later when Jeremiah heard from God for them to stay I Judah and not flee to Egypt the people told Jeremiah that he was lying. “You haven’t heard from God! You want us to stay here so that this King can kill us!” Jeremiah said, “if you don’t stay you will die in the place you want to settle.
God was using the foreign king to judge Israel for being disobedient in worshipping idol gods. It didn’t matter where they ran to because everywhere they went God’s judgment would follow but if they stayed in the “Promised Land” under a heathen King God promised he would restore them.
What if God allowed a heathen President, whether they were republican or democrat, to be elected because he was using them as judgment against us? Could you stay here and still be faithful to God and reestablish God’s Kingdom agenda?
If we stay in this land under a heathen leader God is still sovereign. If we stay he promises that he will:
1. Build us up and not tear us down. No matter who’s in charge God is still in control. If anybody knows this its Africans in America. Our oppressors tried to exterminate us through lynching, legislation, and criminalization. We not only survived but we thrived. God built up our numbers. We don’t die we multiply.
2. God will plant us not uproot us. Christians of all races have to have faith in God regardless of who’s in office. We are to seek the welfare of the city in which we live and pray for our leaders. It’s a shame that some white conservative Christians were praying for President Obama to get brain cancer. That is not of God! When you are in the will of God he will cause you to thrive under even the most adverse conditions.
3. You will die where you want to settle. God’s grace covers you when you are in his will. The safest place in the whole wide world is in the will of God. Whether a battlefront or the Prison ward, the safest place is in the will of God. Regardless of who’s elected God will watch over his remnant if we are obedient to trust him.
Don’t Boo! Vote! This is one of the most pivotal elections. One candidate looks like the anti-Christ from the book of revelation and the other seems to have shaky ethics and questionable justice practices. I know who I’m not voting for but just in case God is getting ready to judge this country, I’m prepared to stay, pray, and do what my ancestors did…thrive in the will of God!
I pray that you don’t turn us over into the hands of an egomaniac and someone who feigns religion. Help us to turn back to you before you turn us over to a foreign ruler. We do not know what to do but our eyes are watching you. Motivate us to choose life and exercise our right to choose a leader whose heart is closest to yours. Your sheep will not heathen to the voice of a stranger but many of “your sheep” seem to have gone tone deaf. Our nation is drifting in a dangerous direction. Father intervene before we go too far.
In Jesus Name,
