Romans 15:13

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

There is no greater feeling than to walk around knowing that you have more than enough, like Tupac said, “it feels good putting money in the mailbox when the rent is due.” I would argue and say that there is something even greater than that. There is nothing greater than being full of God. You can be lacking financially but overflow spiritually. Your overflow from God keeps you until you are able to put something in the mailbox.

God wants every believer to experience overflow. He wants to take you from “no fruit” “to much fruit.” How do we experience overflow?

1. God has to fill you up! We can only be filled up when we abide in him. You can’t get your car filed up simply by parking next to the gas pump. You have to get out and make the connection between you and the supplier.

2. God fills you with all Joy and Peace as you trust in him. The thing that initiates the filling is Trust. When you pray you must believe that the one you are praying to is able to do what you have asked him to do. What takes over is…

a. Joy. A feeling of great happiness, a source or cause of great happiness, success in doing, finding, or getting something.

b. Peace—nothing missing and nothing broken, the freedom from fear. God will keep you in perfect peace when your mind is stayed on him.

3. So that you will overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. When you pump too much gas it causes an overflow and gas spills out. If it gets on you, people can smell it on you all day. What do you smell like? Believers ought to smell like Hope. Hope is an optimistic attitude of mind based upon an expectation of greater outcomes related to events and circumstances in one’s life or the world at large. Our hope is built on nothing less than Jesus ’blood and righteousness.

Psalm 20:6-7

New International Version (NIV)

6 Now this I know:

The Lord gives victory to his anointed.

He answers him from his heavenly sanctuary

with the victorious power of his right hand.

7 Some trust in chariots and some in horses,

but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.

Dear God,

Thank you for the overflow! I’m going to trust in you to provide all of my needs. My hope is built on Jesus Christ and his blood and righteousness! I dare not trust the sweetest frame but wholly lean on Jesus name. God send the overflow!

In Jesus Name,
