ID-10075286Matthew 2:13 “After the wise men were gone, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream. “Get up! Flee to Egypt with the child and his mother,” the angel said. “Stay there until I tell you to return, because Herod is going to search for the child to kill him.”

There are so many threats against our children these days. As I’m typing this a news alert on my phone reads: “Brighton students not allowed in school because of threats.” Yesterday three teens picked up from North western prep academy robbed and beat up a 28 year old man over his Apple Watch. A nine year old was lured into an alley in Chicago and shot multiple times in the face and chest because his father was gang affiliated.

Our children are in danger many times because of their affiliation with purpose. The enemy realizes that if they ever reach their potential then the minority becomes the majority. God can shift the human economy to where the first will be last and the last will be first. This is unsettling news for the enemy who has a limited time to rule before Jesus comes to make the world right.

There came an announcement of good news to Jerusalem directly from heaven, “The messiah was to be born and he would save his people from their sins!” This news disturbed King Herod and all of Jerusalem!” Why? Because Herod was an exploitive King set up by the oppressive Roman government. Even the people that should have been happy were disturbed. Some people identify so much with the oppressor that they fear what the oppressor fears.

Our children are in danger…

  1. When wisdom leaves the building. One of the things that puts our children at a great risk is when they are not getting enough wisdom. When the wise men left from visiting Jesus that’s when Herod planned his attack. The church must have a counter attack when wisdom leaves that’s when we have to step in. That’s why our church is a part of Arise2read.org <http://arise2read.org> . We want to cut the pipeline to prison so that our kids want end up in prison or dead.
  2. Take the child and his mother to Egypt. If we are going to save the children we are going to have to get the parents involved in the rescue process. I like how our charter school, Power Center Academy, mandates parent participation.
  3. Stay in Egypt until the threat is over. We really have to be stringent with our children in this season. They can’t go everywhere and do everything. It’s just too dangerous! Be discerning where you allow them to go.
  4. Be careful of mass incarceration and extermination. He told ordered every child under two years of age. By the time our children are in the second grade they are evaluated to see how many prisons they need to build. We can end mass incarceration by volunteering in programs like Arise 2read, after school programs, and youth employment opportunities.
  5. You might have to move to a safer community until you and other divine intervention changes yours. When Hetod died the angel told Joseph to leave Egypt but he couldn’t go back because Herod’s son was in charge. Joseph took baby Jesus to Galilee. Neither Bethlehem or Nazareth was exactly a plush suburb but Nazareth was away from the immediate threat. Nazareth had a reputation as well, “Can anything good come out of Nazareth?!” Good can come out of North Memphis, good can come out of the South Side of Chicago, good can come out of some of the poorest neighborhoods  but we are going to have to work together to ensure the safety of our children.

Dear God,

Help us to intervene on behalf of our children. The enemy wants them dead but I know you have other plans. Plans to heal, plants to prosper… While they were in their mother’s womb you had plans for them to prosper and succeed. God help our children to live and not die.
In Jesus Name,

Amen
