“This is what the Lord Almighty says: ‘In a little while I will once more shake the heavens and the earth, the sea and the dry land. I will shake all nations, and what is desired by all nations will come, and I will fill this house with glory,’ says the Lord Almighty.

‘The glory of this present house will be greater than the glory of the former house,’ says the Lord Almighty. ‘And in this place I will grant peace,’ declares the Lord Almighty.”
Haggai 2:6-7, 9 NIV

We got too comfortable! When you get too used to something you take it for granted. We get set in our ways and it requires a shaking.

One NBA veteran was asked about what he thought about all the trades that were made during the summer. He said, “it’s good for the league. It’s good to shake things up every now and again. It makes us try harder and equally distributes the talent.”

There’s been too much complacency in the Kingdom. People are operating out of a spirit of entitlement. “A servant pampered from youth will turn out to be insolent.” ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭29:21‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Sometimes when God blesses us we get spoiled and we become insolent; insultingly contemptuous in speech. That’s when God has to show us better than he can tell us. He has to shake things up and make some trades.

God saw that Israel had been struggling with an economic and spiritual famine. His glory had not manifested in the sanctuary and his people were struggling financially. “You expected much, but see, it turned out to be little. What you brought home, I blew away. Why?” declares the Lord Almighty. “Because of my house, which remains a ruin, while each of you is busy with your own house. Therefore, because of you the heavens have withheld their dew and the earth its crops.” Haggai‬ ‭1:9-10‬ ‭NIV‬‬

In the chapter two of Haggai God shifts from the personal economic problems of his people that came as a result of ignoring the needs of the sanctuary to the fact that his sanctuary lacked his glory.  A shake up was needed!

Sometimes we need to stop and take inventory of our drought and ask ourselves, “Am I the reason for the drought on my house and God’s house?” If you answer yes for either one then it might be time for a shake up!

  1. Once again I will shake the heavens and the earth. It’s amazing that Jesus teaches his disciple the importance of unity and agreement. He teaches them that “where two or three are touching and agreeing there I will be also…whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.” Disunity will cause God to shake up people that are not walking in agreement with you because they clog up what heaven wants to release. Don’t be surprised that the people you won with last season get traded this season. A shake is needed to continue to win. It ain’t personal it’s just my father’s business. Jesus shook his family up and said, “Did you not know that I had to be about my father’s business?!”
  2. I will shake all nations and the desires of all nations will come. God will use antagonism in the things that are going on in the nation to get us to turn back to him. All of these unjust laws and actions of this current administration is causing us to be shaken. But as a result the desires of all nations for the righteousness of God is beginning to rise in the midst of all the hate and evil. God had to shake us to awaken us!
  3. “The glory of this present house will be greater than the glory of the former house,’ says the Lord Almighty. ‘And in this place I will grant peace,’ declares the Lord Almighty.”” Haggai‬ ‭2:9‬ ‭NIV‬‬

After God shakes us up that is when he will fill us up. God’s glory is waiting on the outside of our churches waiting for the people of God to get it right on the inside. When we take too long to get it right that’s when God starts shaking things up so that only the people that are supposed to remain stay. Everything that is not in alignment with God will get shaken out! There’s a greater glory that God wants us to experience on the inside of our churches but there’s too much division, pettiness, and arguments. Once God shakes all that up whatever is not connected to the vine falls off. When God shakes his church he separates the wheat from the chaff. The result is a greater anointing and a greater glory!

Dear God,

I pray in the name of Jesus that you will shake everything out of my house and my church that no longer lines up with your holy will. Send me people that are in agreement with you and walk in unity with me. God send your full glory into our church even as we give you the glory by what we give to your house. Father, I know that when I give you what belongs to your house then you are going to bless my house. Shake it up God! Shake off any rotten fruit and bad apples. Shake it up God! Let that which has settled at the bottom make its way to the top. Shake it up God! Reveal everything that’s been hidden and get them out of their hiding places. Shake it up God! Anybody that’s been stealing and putting a curse on the finances shake them out! Shake it up until everything is clear out so that your glory can come in and the glory of the house in 2018 will be greater than anything we’ve seen in the last 17 years. Shake it up!

In Jesus’ Name,
