Hear No Good, See No Good, Do No Good
Acts 28:27 For this people’s heart has become calloused;they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes.Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their heartsand turn, and I would heal them.’
It seems like people don’t want to hear the truth anymore. People hear what they want to hear. Gossip has replaced the Gospel. Lust has replaced Love. Callousness has replaced compassion.
When I was a younger man I would hear the older preachers talking about a day when people would no longer hold to sound doctrine but instead they would go after teachers who would tickle their ears. I thought they were just being old fashioned. They were right.
People today don’t want to be challenged by the truth of God’s word. The sacrifice of the Cross has been reduced to pleasant stories on how you can be happy. When people are challenged to do more for God they run to less challenging churches or stop going all together.
Many of us are experiencing great turmoil in our lives. There is a solution to our healing.
1. We have to make our hearts soft again. Over the course of time our hearts can become hard over “church hurt” or setbacks in life. We have to keep our hearts soft through forgiveness and asking God to take away resentment.
2. You have to come to church with an open mind. We have so many filters; suspicion, agnostic, stereotypes, etc. it’s hard to hear the word when we bring so many filters to church but when you come to hear God’s word will penetrate your heart. How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? Romans 10:14
3. Open your eyes. We have closed our eyes to suffering. We have closed our eyes to the signs of the times. God is showing us his warnings before destruction but we have closed our eyes. Romans 1:18-19 The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness, since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them.
When we soften our hearts, listen to God’s word, and open our eyes to the truth that is when God will heal us.
Open the eyes of my heart because I want to see you again. Let me hear Joy and gladness again. Please don’t give up on us we weren’t listening but now we see the errors of our ways. We are turning back to you. Please heal your people and heal our land.
In Jesus Name,
