2 Corinthians 9:11 You will be made rich in every way. Then you can always give freely. We will take your many gifts to the people who need them. And they will give thanks to God.

There are so many people trying to figure out ways to get rich. You hear rappers bragging about their brand name clothes and lavish lifestyles. You see people on Facebook pushing multi-level pyramid schemes promising cars and riches. You even see pastors and saints pushing prosperity as an end in itself for following Jesus. The bible speaks of wealth. God gives us the ability to get wealth. But it also warns about the perils of trying to get rich. Proverbs 23:4 Don’t wear yourself out trying to get rich. Be wise enough to know when to quit.

Paul reminded the Christians in Corinth that God wanted to make them rich in every way. The word rich can also be translated “enrich,” which means:

: to make (someone) rich or richer

: to improve the quality of (something) : to make (something) better

: to improve the usefulness or quality of (something) by adding something to it

God wants to enrich not make us “filthy” rich. God gives increase when our righteousness increases. Our creator wants us to have right living and right giving.

1. God will enrich us in every way. In every aspect of our lives, God wants to improve the quality of our lives. Quality doesn’t always mean quantity. I like this NLV of this text: 2 Corinthians 9:11 God will give you enough

2. God will give you enough or enrich you in every way so that “we” (the church) can give to those in need. When you give your tenth to the church, the church uses it for ministry to help people in need. God will not give to you what he cannot get through you. God blesses you to be a blessing. That’s why it’s hard for rich people to get into heaven. They can’t die to self. The amazing trend now is that Billionaires like Bill Gates are giving the bulk of their wealth away to philanthropic efforts. They realize their vast riches would only ruin the humanity of their children.

3. Other people will give thanks to God for what you give. Only what we do for Christ will last. Proverbs says that when we lend to the poor God will pay us back.

We don’t have to wear ourselves out trying to get rich. If we seek first God’s Kingdom and his righteousness all these things will be added to us. We don’t have to die trying to get rich JESUS already died to enrich our lives.

Dear God,

Thank you for life and life more abundantly. You have enriched my life in so many ways. The opportunities, the friendships, my good health, the places I’ve seen, the tables I’ve sat around. I am rich in every way. Now help me to use my blessings to help others. Show me how to leave an inheritance for my children’s children but also bless other people’s children. Help me to die empty but have a full account in heaven. Thank you for making my life rich in every way.
