cross-sky1 Corinthians 8:9 Since you are free to do as you please, be careful that this does not hurt a weak Christian.

We have been saved by Grace, thanks to JESUS dying on the cross. As we swiftly approach easter to celebrate Jesus exchanging his life for our freedom, we have to stop to ask, “free to do what?!”

Are we set free to sin more or sin less? Jesus set us free from the law of sin and death. There was no way we could carry out the heavy burden of all the laws that man had made from the laws that God handed down to Moses. We were slaves to sin and religion but Jesus made it about a relationship
. God so loved the world that he gave his only son to set us free. He whom the son sets free is free indeed! But free to do what?

1.  He sets us free from trying to live by the law but he wants us to carry out the spirit of the law. Even Jesus said, “I didn’t come to destroy the law but to fulfill the law!” God gave us the law to help us not hurt us. If we truly love Jesus we will keep his commands and his burdens are light.

2. We are free from the power of sin and death. But that doesn’t mean we live life without fear of consequences. For every action there is a reaction. God is not mocked! Whatever we sow is what we will reap.

3.  We are free to help and not hinder other people. Our freedom should never cause anyone else to stumble. What is a freedom to you may be an offense to someone else. We are always representatives of Jesus and as such our decisions should always be around how we can best represent him at any given moment.

We have taken great liberty with the lifestyles we choose to live because we live in the land of the free and the home of the “depraved.” We always have to measure our lifestyles with God’s standards. There is a way that seems right to a man but in the end leads to death. Even though we have been set free we were bought at a price. Jesus’ blood redeemed us and now we are not our own. We are free but still slaves to Christ. Our allegiance to him overrides our personal freedoms especially if they cause someone weaker to stumble.

Dear God,

Help me to use my freedom responsibly and constructively. I want my life to point people in your direction not the wrong direction. Use my life to point people in the direction of life and not death. Thank you for setting me free!

In Jesus Name,
