Colossians 4:5 Use your heads as you live and work among outsiders. Don’t miss a trick. Make the most of every opportunity. Be gracious in your speech. The goal is to bring out the best in others in a conversation, not put them down, not cut them out.
Everyday is filled with missed opportunities because we don’t take advantage of the open doors that God gives us to speak life or bring life. Each time we encounter someone outside the faith it is an opportunity to share the goodness of Jesus Christ. Our conversations are portals to new dimensions for people who’ve been waiting for an opportunity for better. Each conversation we have is an opportunity to make a divine connection. It’s up to you to take advantage of the opportunity.
How do we make sure we don’t waste an opportunity?
1. Use your heads. Ask yourself how can I use this opportunity for God to get some glory out of this encounter. God sends people across your path for a reason. Each encounter is an opportunity to glean something from the people you meet or to make a deposit from something God has given you. I don’t believe in randomness. I believe that God sends people across your path for a reason. Use your head to see why.
2. Don’t miss a trick. Be alert during your conversations today. People will tell you who they are and why they are there. You just have to listen and be attentive to every detail. Some of have entertained angels without knowing because they weren’t paying attention.
3. Make the most of every opportunity. The Boston Celtics basketball franchise was the NBA benchmark franchise during the50’s and 60’s. there was assign that hung in their locker room during those years that read: The game is scheduled – we have to play – might as well win it! Every opportunity that God gives you ought to be played to win.
4. The goal is to bring out the best in other sin a conversation. Every opportunity you get to interact with someone through conversation is to bring out the best in him or her. You want to build them up and not tear them down.
Today I will look for an opportunity to glean something from my conversations that I would not have gotten in isolation. I will not waste my opportunities today. Thank you for trusting me with the people you are sending in my direction.
In Jesus Name,
