This is what you must do so they will live and not die when they approach the most sacred objects. Aaron and his sons must always go in with them and assign a specific duty or load to each person.
You would never think of church as a place where you could die. It’s always been seen as a “saving station.” It’s a place where people come to find new life but there is a danger that once you get in church you could die in church.
God reminds Moses in Numbers of Aaron’s two sons, Nadab and Abihu who offered “unauthorized or strange” fire before the Lord and fell down dead. Then in chapter four he tells Moses to avoid further death by assigning specific tasks for the men ages 30 to 50 to carry out.
In the New Testament Paul talks about how each person in church has a spiritual gift they are to use for the edification of the body. If we do not use it we lose it.
God is not going to strike us down for not using our gift but we will experience a death of potential and spiritual inertia.
Nadab and Abihu died because they did something only a “high” priest should have done. When we operate in positions that we are not anointed to handle we can put ourselves at risk to things that could kill us spiritually and physically. When a person operates outside their ability for too long it creates stress that could kill them. You must operate within your gift mix.
On the other side of the coin coming to church and doing nothing can also kill you slowly. It’s been proven that people who join a ministry or small group within 30 days of joining a church tend to grow and thrive. People who don’t end of leaving.
1. Find out what your spiritual gift is. There are many spiritual gift inventories you can take online. Once you discover your gift sign up for a ministry.
2. Each member should carry their load. We are all members of the body of Christ. Each part of the body has a function. When you don’t use a part of your body it can atrophy. Don’t let your gift die because you are not active.
3. You can avoid spiritual homicide by finding out where you are supposed to be serving in your local church.
Help me to add value and life to my church by being active and doing my part. I realize that when I come and just sit in the church I can allow infection to set up in the body of Christ because of my inactivity or unsanctioned activity. Show me how to use my gifts for your glory.
In Jesus Name,
