Acts 2:46-47 Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.
There are a lot of theories around the topic of church growth. People want to know how to add thousands of people to the membership roster. What I have learned is that it has nothing to do with theories or technique but simply being authentic. When you Love God and Love people God is the one that adds the increase.
There are common variables that help a church grow. But the thing we need to understand is that the church is not a building or an institution. The church is simply a gathering of God’s people.
There are some common ingredients to making sure the gathering of people grow in maturity and numbers.
1. They devoted themselves to the apostles teaching. It’s not enough to be hearers of the word but we must make application of what we hear.
2. They were committed to fellowship. They met in each other’s home for prayer and breaking bread. Today that would be equivalent to being in a small group. We call it EmpowerU. Every Tuesday night our members commit to being Discipled by joining a small group of other believers where they open up to teaching and praying for one another. If we don’t build relationships in the church within 30 days of joining we end up leaving.
3. They had everything in common and gave to those who were in need. They shared their possessions. The church is a place where we meet the needs of the people in our community by sharing our gifts.
4. They were consistent in worship. Everyday they met in the temple courts for prayer and praise. They went everyday! If we could just get people to go One Day a week on Sunday! Consistent attendance on Sunday worship and Tuesday Discipleship would ensure that you keep growing!
As a result the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved. There are so many people around us in need of salvation. When we get in our proper places God will add to our numbers. When we devote ourselves to the apostles teaching, commit ourselves to prayer, get in a small group, God will send Miracles, signs, and wonders and he will add to the numbers those who need to be saved.
We have something in Common!
Help me to get in position this year to ensure that I help my church to grow. If everybody in my church were just like me what kind of church would my church be? Strengthen me to Be!
In Jesus Name!
