Acts 12:5, 7 So Peter was kept in prison, but the church was earnestly praying to God for him. Suddenly an angel of the Lord appeared and a light shone in the cell. He struck Peter on the side and woke him up. ‘Quick, get up!’ he said, and the chains fell off Peter’s wrists.
There is so much going on in the world today. We face many difficulties and sometimes it feels as if the enemy surrounds us. But the good news is that somebody is praying for you.
I was working out this morning and my instructor mentioned that I was taking a missions trip to Africa and asked our group to pray. One by one they each stopped me to assure me that they were praying. There’s a different kind of peace and confidence you have when you know that people are praying for you.
Peter was arrested and put in prison because of his faith in Jesus. It was a hopeless situation. He was in a maximum-security prison chained between two guards with guards outside his cell. King Herod wanted to make sure Peter didn’t escape. He wanted to execute him but the church was earnestly praying.
The enemy’s only purpose is to steal, kill, and destroy the life of believers but when the righteous prays something happens.
- The church was earnestly praying. Many times we use the cliché “I will be praying for you” as a way to get out of a conversation. When you say that you have to mean it. Stop what you are doing and pray for that person. Call their name out. Put them on your prayer list and ask God to cover them.
- When prayers go up chains fall off. God sent an angel to Peter, put the guards in a deep sleep, and made Peter’s chains fall off. This was some “Mission Impossible” stuff! With man it’s impossible but with God all things are possible!
- Prayers open doors. When the steel gates of the prison opened up, Peter realized that it was not a dream. When you are up against something that seems impossible remember that prayer is the key and faith unlocks the door.
- If they hesitate to open the door, keep knocking! When Peter went to the house where people were praying for him, they didn’t believe it was him at the door. The girl that answered his knock left him standing outside and the people told her she was crazy when she said it was Peter. When God answers your prayers it’s going to be so crazy you won’t even believe it!
When you are up against something that seems impossible I want you to send your prayers to him! You know him don’t you? Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us,
Give us safe travel to Ghana. Grant us your anointing to minister with power and effect. Bring us safely back home. Send the resources we need to do ministry, feed our families, take care of our obligations, and have some left to bless others. Bless every person who is facing the impossible today. Make a way out of no way and do what only you can do. Open a door!
In Jesus Name,
