Hebrews 6:12 Then, knowing what lies ahead for you, you won’t become bored with being a Christian nor become spiritually dull and indifferent, but you will be anxious to follow the example of those who receive all that God has promised them because of their strong faith and patience.

It’s amazing to me to see my sons walk around the house sometimes with sad face…s. I ask them what’s wrong and they will occasionally say to me, “I’m Bored!” I’m thinking to myself with all the stuff you have to do, how in the world can you be Bored?! As a child I didn’t have time to be bored there was always some kind of adventure to be discovered whether it was building a club house, rising our bikes, playing ball, fishing, hunting, etc.

Maybe this generation of young people are over stimulated through technology that they have become desensitized to experiencing the world around them. Our children aren’t the only ones walking around bored but we as the children of God are Bored of following Christ. Then again maybe we are bored of Christianity because if we followed Christ there is no way we would be bored.

If we followed Jesus into the streets to engage lost people there’s no way we would be bored. If we followed Jesus into the mission field to rescue the poor there’s no way we would be bored. If we followed Jesus into the harvest field to feed the hungry with his word there’s no way we would be bored. What makes us bored is when we sit up in the house waiting to be entertained playing the same old church games. That’s boring!

You can’t help people and be bored! When you help people by serving in ministry God will remember his promise to you. When we do what God tells us to do we have something to look forward to.

1. Knowing what lies ahead for you, won’t allow you to be bored of being a Christian. We get stuck in a religion of what’s happening right now that we lose sight of our faith of what will happen tomorrow. You get bored when you lose sight of the bigger picture.

2. When you are bored you become spiritually dull and indifferent. You lose your sharpness and your compassion. Churches are full of bored Christians who’ve lost the ability to go out and do something. Instead they walk around in the house of God complaining about how bored they are when the truth of the matter is there is so much to do. It’s time for us to sharpen our swords and axes. There is work to do.

3. The way we keep from getting bored is to follow the example of those who had strong faith and patience in the promises of God. You can never get bored following God. That requires action not just belief. Faith without works is dead. Anything dead is boring. We have an active faith. God cannot lie! If he said it you can believe that it’s going to happen. God has spoken too much over your life for you to be bored! Get up and go pursue what God has for you. The LORD had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you. Genesis 12:1

You are only bored when you are sitting in the house not doing anything. Get up and do what God told you! Go outside and play! Make Disciples. Clothe the Naked. Feed the hungry. Heal the sick. Cast out devils. Preach the word. Study to show yourselves approved. Set the captives free. Go get what the devil stole from you and I promise you, you will not be bored!

Dear God,

Thank you for reminding me that I don’t have time to be bored. I’ve got too many adventures to participate in by being obedient in what you’ve called me to do. I get excited when I think about the promises you have for New Direction Christian Church. I thank you for letting me be a part of this great adventure. Use me today to participate in this exciting faith journey.

In Jesus Name, Amen!
