“When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show others they are fasting. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, so that it will not be obvious to others that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.” Matthew 6:16-18 NIV

We have begun our 21 Day fast! I always look forward to this time of focus and consecration. It’s a time for us to sharpen our ax and strengthen ourselves where we have become spiritually dull.

There are so many people that benefit from this time of corporate fasting. I’ve had people lose their dependency upon medications, people have lost weight, miracles have occurred, financial blessings, and breakthroughs.

It is a sacrifice to alter your eating habits and be disciplined in trying to pray for breakthrough. Fasting and prayer are a time where we need God to do something for us that we could not do in our own power.

One of the things we have to avoid during fasting is wanting sympathy from other people.

  1. When you fast do not disfigure your faces as the hypocrites do to SHOW others they are fasting! We are not doing this for a show but for God to show up. We are fellowshipping with Jesus in his suffering. This is where we get a taste of the suffering our Lord endured for us. We must count it all joy; besides you’re still eating fruits and vegetables!! Some people have no food!
  2. But when you fast wash your face and put some oil on so that people will not know that you are fasting. In other words no one should even know that you are fasting. The discipline is being able to carry on with your life even as you sacrifice for Christ. Put a smile on your face because of the joy in your heart.
  3. God who sees you in secret will reward you for your fast. We don’t need accolades from people we need a breakthrough from God. Stay the course. Keep the faith and do not grow weary in well doing. Good sees and he will reward you in 20 days!

Dear God,

Thank you for hearing our prayers during this time of fasting. Search us Father and if you find any anxious thoughts or sin take them out. Consecrate our bodies so your Holy Spirit can reside within. Give us the breakthrough that we need to navigate through this year effectively. Thank you for the privilege to be counted worthy to suffer with Christ for if I suffer I’ll get eternal life. I’m ready for my breakthrough!

In Jesus Name,
