But my servant Caleb—this is a different story. He has a different spirit; he follows me passionately. I’ll bring him into the land that he scouted and his children will inherit it.
What’s different about you? Do you stand out from the crowd or are you trapped by general consensus? Are you able to see possibilities when others only see the negative? Are you able to hold on to the vision even when the majority have changed their minds?
God had promised Moses and Aaron that they would lead the Children of Israel out of Egypt into a land flowing with “Milk and Honey.” That was the vision for the New Year but somewhere along the way it took too long for the vision to manifest and a group of leaders starting questioning the validity of Moses’ vision and his ability to lead. They started a petition to go back to Egypt. God was highly upset that the people were rebelling and murmuring against his chosen leader Moses.
God decided that everyone over twenty who grumbled against Moses would have to die in the desert during the next forty years. He gave them a year for every day they murmured during their 40 days. What will be your attitude for the next 40 days?
God condemned all the older leaders who were grumbling and had given up on the vision to die except Joshua and Caleb. Caleb is the only one he mentions specifically. He says, “all y’all are getting ready to die and the younger ones will see the promise that you said could never happen, except for one person….Caleb!”
Why Caleb? Because he has a different spirit. What’s a different sprit? When everyone else said that the vision was too big and that there was no way they could defeat those Giants, Caleb said, “we can do this with God’s help!” He had a different spirit.
If you are going to do the impossible this year; if you are going to be part of the solution and not the problem you have go to have a different spirit.
What is a different spirit?
1. You don’t get caught up in the negative side bar conversations on why the vision ain’t going to work.
2. You have a good attitude when you come to work.
3. You are passionate about what you are doing.
4. You are loyal to God and your leader.
When you don’t possess these character God will eventually expose you and separate you. One of the things my pastor always told me is, “when you no longer can follow the vision of your leader it’s better to go on and leave then to stay and die.” Because God has given a vision to your leader it’s not up to you to figure out how or when but do and follow.
What we can do is look at the track record of God and how he has used the leader. If you can look back and see God work through your leader don’t get caught up in delays and contaminate your spirit and the spirit of others by murmuring.
Many times it’s not the forces on the outside that threaten a movement but it’s the people murmuring on the inside. Today make up your mind that you are going to have a different spirit. Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain. I Corinthians 15:58
Give me a different spirit. Don’t let me be sidetracked by negative murmurs. Help me to see past obstacles to see divine possibilities. Don’t let my spirit be tainted by negative people. Help me to hold to the vision you have to me even in difficult times you will make this vision come to pass.
In Jesus Name,
