“But my servant Caleb has a different attitude than the others have. He has remained loyal to me, so I will bring him into the land he explored. His descendants will possess their full share of that land.”

Numbers 13:24

If you can keep your head when all about you

Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,

If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,

But make allowance for their doubting too;

If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,

Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies,

Or being hated, don’t give way to hating,

And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,

Or walk with Kings-nor lose the common touch,

If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,

Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it

And-which is more-you’ll be a Man, my son!

–Rudyard Kipling

We have to have a different attitude if we are going to make it through this maze of indifference called life. In a world of cynicism and faithlessness we have to have a different attitude than the people around us.

When Moses sent the 12 spies to do reconnaissance of the Promised Land there were mixed reviews. Although they saw evidence of bounty the majority came back with a fearful report of giants. The minority report from Joshua and Caleb was one of hope and optimism. Caleb’s opinion was that God could give them the Promised Land in spite of the giants.

Caleb had a different spirit, a different attitude. Your attitude determines your altitude! Even after 40 years in the wilderness Caleb told Joshua at 80 years of age, “Give me my mountain. I’m just as vigorous today as I was when we first spied out the land!” Caleb kept his head when everyone around him was losing theirs.

Caleb remained loyal to God! Caleb had seen the miracles of God and held tight to who God was. Do you have the ability to remain loyal when the majority of people have given up on God? So many people are giving up on the church, saying it’s no longer relevant but we have to have a different attitude and remain loyal!

God will bring you into the land and your descendants when you have a different attitude. Now here’s the thing- Caleb was loyal but still suffered the consequences of the majority by having to wonder in the wilderness for 40 years due to their lack of belief. But Caleb remained loyal and had a different attitude and 40 years later he inherited his promise!

Dear God,

Thank you that a delay is not a denial! I refuse to give into negative “group think.” My attitude is different! Today I will look for the giant grapes not the giant problems. I believe with all my heart that you are able to give us the victory! Give me this mountain!

In Jesus’ Name,
